Patrol
dogs
A well trained dog team is a very effective way of
guarding. A professional and highly visible dog and
handler will act as a strong deterrent
to intruders. Dogs have very highly developed senses and
when trained and handled correctly they can efficiently
detect intruders which may have been missed by
normal security officers.
A trained dog will aid in the defence
of the officer should he be under attack. This gives
officers more confidence to carry out their duties in
vulnerable areas. Intruders and criminals are more
likely to surrender when faced with a dog team. A well
disciplined dog can be intimidating on command despite
being completely under control by the handler.
Security
dogs are trained to pick up on intruders or hidden
persons by scent, sight or sound, to protect their
handler by standing their ground and showing controlled
aggression, when confronted with threatening behaviour
and are able to detain a suspect until the authorities
arrive to deal with the situation.
